I went to go see Yayoi Kusama’s Fireflies on the Water exhibit at the Whitney today. [[MORE]] It was quite an ordeal but I was determined to get in (I went last Saturday and waited for half an hour only to be turned away by a SOLD OUT). After many subway detours due to construction, I got into line 20 minutes after opening. Then it was a 45-minute wait to get a timeslot (which the attendant told me would be 4:40). After going through all the exhibits, I still had a lot of time to kill so I went home and took a nap (I was sweaty and tired due to the detours and like 20+ blocks of walking in the hot sun). I get back to the museum at 4:30 via a nice trek through Central Park and upon trying to enter the Fireflies waiting room, I’m told that since I do not have an orange timeslot ticket, I can’t go in. Um, what. This is where my hyper-weak-sensitivity kicks in and stupid tears start to come up but I go up to the first attendant who handled my morning transaction to tell him that oh my god are you telling me that I essentially waited 4 hours for nothing please please please. He was merciful to my tears (“I’m so sorry- let me ask my manager, you’re going to make me cry too…”) and I was accommodated. Thank goodness. Because I’m pretty sure I would have fallen to pieces if I hadn’t been able to go in again. The actual exhibit was extremely gorgeous. I felt like I was transported into some kind of parallel space. All the mirrors do a fantastic job of really casting an infinite landscape. And no, the lights do not actually pulsate- but I was too chicken to take a real GIF since photography is prohibited. Shhh! You’re only allowed 60 seconds to appreciate the beauty which is basically a blink and you’re out of there. I really wish I could have taken my time but it’s a fairly small room and a lot of people waiting. :( All in all: If you’re going on the weekend, arrive before 11 to be guaranteed a slot into Fireflies. Be prepared to wait at least 30 minutes outside in line. Make sure you get an orange ticket. Seriously. And also be prepared to wait 2-4 hours after you get that orange ticket with your timeslot. There’s free admission for Bank of America customers (idk why) the first weekend of every month. Cool. Whitney Museum attendants are nice and pity you if you cry like a sad baby.

There is a gorgeous shop on Broome St. called Purl Soho and they sell a TON of different yarns, wool felts, and other fabrics. In every. single. possible. color. you. could. possibly. need.

Sadly, I don’t knit or felt but I always come into this store if I’m in the area just to gape at the sheer incredible array of colors. It just makes me feel good to be in this store.

I complain about Times Square a lot. It’s noisy, it’s congested and there’s people in their dirty knockoff Elmo costumes. But honestly, I like it.

I’m not saying I want to live there and it’s touristy as hell though I am pretty much a tourist but the neon lights are beautiful and the atmosphere is always bursting at 100%. It’s interesting to me that one area can be so alive 24 hours a day, every day. I wonder if it will still be this energized like 50 years from now.

I was sitting on the steps of The New York Public Library (GORGEOUS PLACE), trying to inconspicuously capture some people walking about when this guy comes out of nowhere and proceeds to make my GIF magical. Much more interesting than just people going up and down some stairs, no?
